Who was your first love?

My first love was my dog, Castro. He found me almost 11 years ago as a 3 month old little cutey! I was 19 years old and really wanted a dog, so I decided to do some research, so I checked out the Petsmart in the area to see if they would have any puppies to adopt and boy did they! One Saturday I went to check the dogs and found this perfect little fluffy goodness and had to have her! There was a just a picture of her because she was getting spayed, so she couldn't make it that day, so I inquired about when she would be there. They assured me she would be there next week, so I waited....and returned the next weekend. I was so excited as I walked in the door, I was the first one there for the event. I was so early they hadn't even brought in all the dogs, so I took a place next to this shopping cart, where I saw a puppy just staring up at me. It was love at first site. I asked if it was anyone's dog and they said he was there for adoption, so I hung out next to him until all the dogs were brought in. Of course, I first asked about my first love, the fluffy goodness, but it turns out she couldn't make it again this weekend and I thought to myself, "This must be meant to be". So I sat next to this puppy until they were ready to adopt out and said I had to have him. Little did I know he was the most unique one out of the entire bunch! There were 10 black puppies from the same litter and just one tan one with a half white, half black face. I still have no idea why he ended up in this cart all alone or why he was brought in first or why that fluffy goodness wasn't there, all I know is Castro and I have had a great journey together. I took him home that day and we have been inseparable. In fact, he's laying next to me right now, on the couch, as I write about him. Share your first love story of how you and your pup became united.

  1. That is so cute. I have two dogs. One is an American Bulldog who is 6 and the other is a half Boston Terrier half French Bulldog and he is 4. When we first met our American Bulldog, her name is Callie, it was love at first sight. My mother in law actually surprised us with her. She just showed up to our house one day and brought her in. We had been searching for one but just hadn't found the perfect one, and now I know why. We have had her since she was 7 weeks old and even to this day I am still so much in love with her. A great thing about her too that I love, is that she loves our son very much from the second we brought him home from the hospital. She is over 100 pounds but with our some Easton (who will be 1 on March 11th) she is so gentle and lets him crawl all over her. It is the cutest thing.

    2. That is awesome! I truly believe there are dogs that were just meant to be. I love that your dogs are great with your son. I worry about this with my dogs when we have children, but I think they will be fine. Castro is such a lover I would never worry about him, it's the other ones lol. I see so many posts on craigslists (since I'm searching for my missing dog) about how people just had babies and they say they have to get rid of their pets. It makes me sick that so may people don't think of their dogs as part of family.

  2. Aw, I remember my first dog but it always upsets me to remember that had to give it away. I will never forgive myself over that. Right now I have a Yorkie poo and he is very excited. Always running and barking.

    1. Aww so sad :( Why did you have to give him away? I recently lost a dog due to an irresponsible sibling that came over, and I've been devastated ever since.

    2. Actually my parents gave him away and all because my grandmother did not like him. At that time my mother had a surgery so my grandmother went to live with us and she just didn't like him.

  3. You dog is so sweet. I have two dogs too. Both of them are Chihuahua and they are a couple. I have a question for you. The name of your dog is very curious.

    1. Awww yes, he is a lover! Huge, but a lover. Aww little dogs, my mom always had yorkies and I stepped on them too much, so I need big dogs. Oh the name of him is weird, but the funny thing is it just fits him. I was 19 when I got him and was dating this kid who was obsessed with Tupac. Well I brought the dog home and he was listening to this song and said we had to name him Castro. So the name just stuck!
